PSC Patterns

For this month’s Photography Styling Challenge, I had to look no further than my kitchen pantry.

Just reading the word “pattern” in this month’s prompt took me back to elementary school, forming arrangements with plastic geometric tiles. I loved this activity; creating flowers and houses and nameless other configurations. I was pretty thrilled at the prospect of this post and spent days chewing on the subject. Should I photograph a cut sewing pattern laid out? Should I head outdoors seeking naturally occurring patterns over staging?

I opted for a small arrangement of items from my home, we have so many small things.

My pantry yielded legumes, nuts, dried herbs, pasta, and grains.

  1. I love how you staged the patterns here! The last pic is darling!!

  2. What a great idea to use pantry items. I love the dark background, especially in that last picture with the dried flowers. My favorite is the corn kernels with the slight drops of water. Really simple and clean photography. Love it!

  3. My favorite, is unexpectedly, the pasta. These are wonderful 🙂

  4. What a creative take on patterns! I love the image of the corn kernels, although they all look very striking against the dark background. Beautiful! ~M.

  5. Lovely Nicole! I especially love the second and last photograph! What a great idea and you captured natures patterns beautifully…well done! x

  6. Such a creative way of doing this months theme. Agreed with Roxy on the 2nd and last photographs. I love the water droplets in the 2nd one and the use of light in the last one. I love the awesome contrast

  7. beautiful pictures…I especially love that dark background u have used. It looks like a well scratched, well used metal tray… am i right? I am so on a hunt for rough boards or trays!
The corn kernel pic is my fav.. very well shot.

    • Thank you Namrata. The popcorn photo seems to be a favorite. I used my old baking sheets for these photos. It was my first time really using them as a background. I recommend them! Thanks for stopping by.

  8. Fun! I like this one! especially the contrast of the black and the little short pasta 🙂 So cute!
